Michaels, as with all other corporate craft stores, has been scraping the bottom of the barrel of capitalism for a while now. Their overabundance of seasonal AI slop is front and center when you walk in. You have to endure the optical assault as you trudge your way to the actually useful craft items. When you do arrive to the aisle of your choosing all you will find is a disorganized, overpriced mess that is often out of stock of the most basic supplies. Today they were almost completely out of buttons. Michaels has sucked the life out of any locally owned competition and now that they are alone on the playing field they can do whatever they want to their customers and employees. Avoid at all costs.

I found what I wanted at Salem Michaels without any difficulties. Kudos to Michaels for offering fabric and sewing notions for purchase. I drove 70 miles 1 way to purchase fabric by the yard that I could quality check, by looking at it and feeling it. Amazon's photos and descriptions are lacking. Sadly Salem Michaels doesn't use cashiers, it is all self checkout. I think there were 3 staff members in the store who seemed to be busy, sadly none were helping shoppers. πŸ€”

Today I experienced firsthand why other customers have complained about Kris. It was my worst experience in this store. I went to one of the self checkouts where I experienced a problem. When I turned to ask for assistance, Kris was right there scolding me for not listening - β€œI TOLD you….!” I then told her that I am deaf and did not hear her. She defensively said that she had spoken to me THREE times and I ignored her, so she thought I was being rude. She continued to be unpleasant and rude to me - even after I told her I am deaf! I was upset and offended, and asked to speak to a manager. Kris claimed to be the manager!! I was stunned! I have met some pleasant employees at this store. How could Michaels choose someone who is so insensitive and unpleasant, and who treats customers so poorly, to be a manager? I plan to take my business to Hobby Lobby!

Got some fabric at Michael's and showed a friend their selection. They have reasonable per yard prices especially on Joann Fabrics old stock they bought out after stores closed. Customer service depends on who you get. The fabric folks are always great. I get grandkid craft activities their too.

Kris provided very poor customer service from the moment we entered the store. We also felt racially profiled at the entrance, and the behavior continued with passive-aggressive treatment at the register. This experience was extremely disappointing, and I will not be shopping at this location again.
